It’s important that your business submits meter readings regularly (within 5 days of your invoice date)) to make sure you’re paying the right amount for your energy.
There are a few ways you can submit your meter readings:
SSE will use your meter readings to work out how much energy you’ve used in that period and bill you accordingly. To do this, they’ll take your reading and subtract the readings from the last period.
SSE is offering all businesses the chance to upgrade to a smart meter as part of the UK Government’s strategy to reach net-zero by 2030. If you’re eligible, you’ll be contacted by SSE.
If your business has up to nine sites, it will qualify for a SMETS2 meter, the second-generation smart meter. With a SMETS2 meter, your business can benefit from:
Did you know that with a smart meter you may never have to submit a meter reading again! 100% accurate bills, all the time. Give us a call to find out more about automatic meter readings.
If you’re eligible for a smart meter, SSE will get in contact by December 2021 to offer you a free installation appointment. If you’d like one sooner, you can contact SSE by calling 0345 725 2526.
The installation process should take no longer than 2 hours. When you book your appointment, bear in mind that your electricity and/or gas (depending on which is having a smart meter) will need to be turned off for around 30-40 minutes.
You’ll find all the details on how to pay your bills on the back of your invoice.
The best way to pay your SSE business energy bill is by direct debit. It also protects you and your business via the Direct Debit Guarantee and avoids the risk of late payment. When it comes to direct debit, you have two options: budget direct debit (a set amount is taken each month) or variable direct debit (payment will be made in line with your agreed payment terms).
You can set up a direct debit by filling out this form and emailing it to business.enquiries@sse.com or post it to:

All of SSE’s business tariffs for small businesses come with 100% renewable electricity, generated on their own wind farms and hydropower plants across the UK. On top of this, you’ll also have the ability to opt for 100% renewable gas.
If you’re on a flexible plan as a larger business, you have a range of options when it comes to renewable energy. You can choose to have 100% renewable electricity from across the UK, from a named wind farm, or you can buy the power you need directly from a wind farm with a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement.
SSE business tariffs can also be upgraded to 100% renewable gas. However, because 100% renewable gas may not be in all businesses’ budgets, SSE also offers ‘SSE Green Gas’ as an alternative. SSE Green Gas is 25% certified renewable gas and 75% carbon-neutral gas, back by carbon offsets.
On top of your gas and electricity plan, there are a number of different tools available to make the most of your energy usage and help save you money.
SSE Clarity is an energy management platform that uses data from your smart or half-hourly meter to help you make sense of how you use your energy. Your data will be used to compile different graphs, charts, and interactive reports that allow you to drill down into different levels of data that you can find through your online account.
SSE Clarity’s reports are divided into two different types:
Your interactive reports don’t just compare your energy usage over time, you can also see how it changes according to factors such as outside temperature, benchmark data, trading vs non-trading data. They can be used to identify problems and faults as well as where you can cut back on your usage to save money.
To use SSE Clarity, you’ll need to have a smart meter installed and turn on half-hourly readings. You’ll also need to give SSE permission to access and view your meter’s half-hourly data so it can be sent to your online dashboard and compiled into reports.
Once you’ve activated SSE Clarity, you can upgrade at any time to SSE Clarity Advanced, which offers a wider range of in-depth analysis and reports suited to management level and Energy Managers. You can do this through your online account or by calling your Account Manager on 0800 072 3317.
SSE Foresight is a portal designed to help organisations with their energy trading. As an adaptive energy portal, you can track and monitor the energy market and protect your business against irregular changes in energy and commodity prices.
You can access the portal at any time across any device to understand your business’ exposure and risk at the touch of a button as well as transact energy in near real-time.
The main reason SSE Foresight is a great tool for businesses is that you can use it to make plans for different scenarios. This keeps you truly informed and ready for any situation to transform your SSE business energy trading capabilities.
Through the SSE Foresight portal, you can:
In the end, SSE Foresight is there to give you confidence when it comes to your energy usage and trading.
To activate Foresight, you can email ssevpp@sse.com or call your Account Manager on 0800 072 3317.
If you can control when and how you consume and generate energy or have energy storage facilities, you might be able to take advantage of the SSE Virtual Power Plant service.
The SSE Virtual Power Plant knits together all types of distributed energy resources, such as demand-side response, combined heat and power (CHP), battery storage, generation, and electric vehicles to maximise value across all potential revenue streams.
The service can help you to:
To get started with SSE’s Virtual Power Plant, call your Account Manager on 0800 072 3317 or email ssevpp@sse.com
Once you’re set up with the Virtual Power Plant, you’ll be able to check your performance and earnings through the live portal and you’ll be sent a monthly account statement and payment. You can access both of these through your SSE business online account.
With businesses owning over half of all registered vehicles in the UK and the sale of petrol and diesel cars set to end in 2030, workplace EV charging is something all companies should be considering.

Getting started with workplace charging is extremely easy with SSE, and might cost less than you think. With a range of added options such as 100% renewable electricity, maintenance contracts, and financing options, there’s no excuse to not join the EV revolution!
If you have over 100 square meters of space available in a well-located, easily accessible site, you could join SSE’s newest EV charging project, help your community go green, and earn long-term revenue. SSE are looking for sites like yours to set up public EV charging hubs. SSE will cover the costs and installation of the charging points, and it’s a great way to boost your business’ reputation in the community.
