The easiest way to take control of your energy is through the Pure Planet app. You can do more through the app than you can via desktop, including viewing usage graphs, taking photos of your meters to provide readings, and a handy torch to help you read your meter in the dark cupboard.

Why can’t I access my account?

To access your Pure Planet account, you’ll also need access to the inbox of your account’s email address on the same device you’re signing into. This is because, instead of using a password, Pure Planet will send you a link in an email to sign you in. Simply click the link in the email and you’ll have full access to your account.

If you haven’t received an email, check your spam/junk folder as it might have been sent there. To stop this from happening again, you can add Pure Planet’s email address to your contacts or ‘safe senders’ list and it will always go straight to your inbox every time.

Paying your energy bills with Pure Planet

Pure Planet currently only offer direct debit payments at the moment, split into summer and winter amounts. While your bill is split into 12 payments, they’re not always equal – rather than being split equally across the 12 months, you’ll pay a bit less in the summer months (April-September) and a bit more in the winter months (October-March). Doing this stops you from running up too much credit over the summer when you’re using less energy or debit when you’re using more in the winter.

If you need to, you can make one-off payments through your online account or the app. Going through ‘Balance and Payments’ to ‘Manage Balance’, you can check your account balance and Pure Planet will give you the option to make a payment, set up a payment plan, or receive further financial support.

Smart meters are being rolled out by energy providers across the country, and Pure Planet is no exception – over 10,000 Pure Planet customers have already had second-generation smart meters (SMETS2) installed by Pure Planet.

Why does my Pure Planet smart meter keep beeping?

There are a few things that could be going on with your smart meter if it keeps beeping at you. Check these first, and if you’re still having trouble, you should contact Pure Planet.

The first thing you should check is the battery on your in-home display. This is the easiest to diagnose and fix as there will be a little low battery icon on the screen and all you have to do when you see this is plug the display back into the wall to charge.

Another thing to watch is your budget. Not just so you know how much you’re spending, but this might be the cause of the beeping noise. If you’ve reached or gone over your budget, some smart meters like to alert you. If you’re getting this alert regularly, you can increase your budget through your in-home display. This might be the case even if you haven’t set a budget as many smart meters come with a preset one.

Pure Planet promises a 17-day switch, which is a lot quicker than other providers, taking around 21 days. Customers are impressed with both the speed and ease of their switch and the updates they receive throughout. They offer very competitive pricing compared to other renewable energy companies, and their 100% offset gas is a huge factor in customer satisfaction.

However, as a 100% digital company, it can be difficult to get hold of someone when problems arise. Emails are left for days and even weeks until they get a response and, while its help bot, WattBot, and its community forum can be helpful, customers still prefer to talk to a human over the phone, which doesn’t appear to happen often.

Tariffs and offers

Unlike most providers, Pure Planet has just two tariffs to choose from – one fixed and one variable. Both tariffs offer 100% renewable electricity and 100% offset gas. There is no mark-up on any of the energy they provide, so their customers will pay the same amount for their energy as Pure Planet do.

With their fixed tariff, because they buy the energy for you upfront, your unit rates and standing charge (which they refer to as a membership fee) will stay the same for the whole of your contract. However, because your energy is bought upfront, there are exit fees involved in this tariff if you want to leave your contract early.

With their variable tariff, there is no fixed contract or exit fees, however, your unit costs can change regularly depending on the wholesale price of energy. Despite fluctuating prices, Pure Planet promises rate protection for the first two months so your bills won’t increase as soon as you switch.

Fuel Mix Disclosure

Energy providers are required by Ofgem to disclose their fuel mix every year to show customers where their electricity is coming from. This is especially important in today’s society as people are becoming more aware of their impact on the environment.

Pure Planet is one of the many energy providers which offers the Warm Home Discount to its low-income and vulnerable customers.

The Warm Home Discount was set up by the Government in 2011 to help customers who might struggle to pay their higher winter energy bills. Eligible customers could receive a one-off payment of £140 to help end fuel poverty across the UK.

There are two groups of people eligible for the Warm Home Discount:

  • The core group – To be eligible for the core group, you’ll be receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. You won’t have to apply for the scheme as you’ll be signed up automatically. You should receive a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions telling you more about the scheme and if there’s anything else you need to do.
  • The broader group – This group is for those on certain other benefits. The criteria for this group is different for different providers and you’ll have to apply for the discount every year. There are only a limited number of discounts available for the broader group, given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
