Orbit Energy is an online-only energy supplier, so signing up for an online account is a crucial step in taking charge of your energy.

Through your online account, you can:

Why can’t I access my account?

Not being able to access your account for an online-only energy provider can put you in a tricky situation – you can’t submit meter readings or even view your bills without it!

The most common reason people struggle with their Orbit Energy login is that they’re using the wrong login details. Make sure you’re using the same email address as the one you signed up with and that there are no spelling mistakes.

If you’re sure your email address is right but haven’t received your Orbit Energy login email, check your spam and junk folders to make sure it hasn’t ended up there by mistake. An easy way to avoid this in the future is to add Orbit Energy to your email contact list.

Access your account

Making payments and topping up

You can pay your Orbit Energy bills by direct debit, credit card, or credit card. If you need to make any extra payments, you can do this through your online account whenever you like. If you can’t get into your account and the above steps haven’t worked, you can also use Orbit Energy’s Quick Pay service – all you need is your account number (which you can find on your bill) and your card details.

Make a payment

If you have a prepayment meter, you can top-up at any PayPoint or Payzone store. Simply take your electricity key or gas card to a shop supporting these and they can top them up for you. You can top up any amount (in whole pounds) between £5 and £49.

How do I get a new key/card?

If you lose your top-up key or card, you might be worried about running out of credit, not being able to top up, and having your supply cut off. But there’s no need to panic – it’s easy to get a new one.

All you have to do is call Orbit Energy on 0333 103 8277 to let them know what’s happened. They’ll send you a replacement key or card through the post or you might be able to pick one up from your closest PayPoint.

Bear in mind that you might have to pay for this replacement.

What happens if I can’t top up?

If you’re struggling to top up for whatever reason, your meters will hold a bit of extra credit for you to use, called ‘emergency credit’.

You can activate your emergency credit when your credit falls below £2 – all you have to do is put your key/card back in the meter and press ‘A’ or ‘yes’.

Your Orbit Energy electricity meter holds £11 worth of emergency credit and your gas meter holds £5. You don’t have to pay any charges for using this, however, you will have to pay back anything you’ve used in your next top-up.

Why does my Orbit Energy smart meter keep beeping?

If your smart meter is beeping regularly, it may be that your in-home display is running low on battery. This is a simple fix – all you have to do is plug it into the mains to charge it up. You’ll be able to tell whether or not this is the problem by looking in the corner of the display where there should be a small battery icon indicating the amount of charge left.

Another thing it could be is that you’re keeping your in-home display too far away from the meter itself and it’s losing connection. If you want to make the most out of your smart meter, you should keep the display in a prominent place, fairly close to the meter.

If your smart meter is only beeping once every couple of days, it may be beeping because you’re going over your daily budget. If this is the case and it’s happening regularly, you might want to think about changing your budget, which you can do through your in-home display. This is worth checking even if you haven’t set a budget as most meters come with one preset.

Multiple positive Orbit Energy reviews are praising their customer service handling and staff. Problems are quickly solved, even problems that came up before their switch date. They communicate with their customers regularly about any changes, reminders, and bills, which are easy to read and understand.

However, some customers are having trouble with bills massively and unnecessarily fluctuating and being told they owe money where they don’t. Customers who are owed money can struggle to get it back and have to chase it up a few times before they receive it or the amount of credit they have varies in different emails.


Orbit Energy has 2 tariffs available – one variable and one fixed.

Their variable tariff is called ‘5% Off 4 Life’. This tariff guarantees that you’ll be paying 5% less than Ofgem’s price cap at all times, whether it goes up or down. The price cap is reviewed in April and October and keeps prices fair for all customers. This tariff includes 100% renewable energy and no exit fees, however, it’s slightly more expensive than their fixed tariff, and it can still increase and decrease regularly.

With their fixed tariff, your unit rates and standing charges will be fixed for 12 months. This also comes with 100% renewable energy as standard, however, you’ll be fixed into a contract for 12 months, unless you want to pay an exit fee of £30 per fuel.

Fuel Mix Disclosure

All energy providers have to share their fuel mix with their customers. The fuel mix tells us what exactly goes into their electricity supply in what quantities.

Like many energy providers, Orbit Energy offers 100% renewable energy to all of its customers, meaning their fuel mix looks like this:

Warm Home Discount

The Warm Home Discount is a Government-led scheme set up in 2011 aiming to help end fuel poverty. Eligible customers could receive £140 from their energy provider to cover their energy bills over the winter.
