Check the spellings of both and make sure you’re using the right combination for your Ecotricity account. If you’ve forgotten which email address or password you use as your Ecotricity login, you can find your username and reset your password below.
If you’ve tried these and you’re still struggling, you can call Ecotricity on 01453 761482 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for help.
Making payments and topping up
Topping up your prepayment meter and paying your bills on time makes sure that you don’t lose energy supply. There are a number of different ways you can pay your gas and electricity bills with Ecotricity:
- Post Office Payment (POP) card
- By cash at a PayPoint
- Using a top-up key or card at a PayPoint or Payzone
- Bank transfer (Sort code: 40-14-13 account number: 62606380)
- By calling 01453 488101
- Through your online account or app
- Direct debit
How do I get a new top-up key/card?
It’s easy to put your top-up electricity key or gas card down and lose track of it. But what should you do to get a replacement if it does get lost or damaged?
If you have a smart prepayment meter, you don’t need a key or card to top up your meters. You can use your online account, the app or call 0345 812 4444 to top up with no problems.
If you have a standard prepayment meter and you need a replacement key, all you have to do is call Ecotricity on 01453 761482. You can either have a new key or card sent in the post or you might be able to pick one up from a local Paypoint or Payzone.
If you’re picking an electricity key up from the shop, because Ecotricity doesn’t have their own branded keys, it’s best to choose either an Eon or Npower brand as they’ll work best with your meter. However, any key except a British Gas key should work too.
Bear in mind that you’ll be charged for your replacement key or card.
What if I can’t top up?
If you can’t get to the shop to top up and are running low on credit, both of your meters will hold an extra £5 worth of credit you can use called ‘emergency credit’ to keep you going until you can top up again.
Your meter should automatically start using your emergency credit when you run out, but if it doesn’t then you can activate it manually. All you have to do is re-insert your key or card into the meter and press the ‘A’ button when prompted.
When you use your emergency credit, you’ll have to pay it back with your next top-up. You won’t pay any standing charges while using emergency credit so you’ll have to make sure you pay this back too in order to avoid racking up any debts.
If you’re struggling to pay even with emergency credit, you should contact Ecotricity on 01453 761350 and they can work with you to come up with a solution.
I want a smart meter
Smart meters are being installed across the country in a bid to help customers save energy and money.
Automatic meter readings!
Did you know that with a smart meter you’ll never have to submit a meter reading again! 100% accurate bills, all the time. Give us a call to find out more about automatic meter readings.
Ecotricity is installing smart meters area-by-area and will contact you when they’re installing near you. You don’t have to accept a smart meter, but there are a number of different reasons why you might want to:
- They can save you money
- They make your energy use more understandable
- They can send meter readings automatically
- You can top up without the need for a key or card
- Your bills will be 100% accurate
If they’ve already installed smart meters in your area but have changed your mind and want one, you can email email@example.com or call 0345 812 5555.
How to top up your smart meter
One of the best things about having a smart prepayment meter is that you can top up wherever you are.
With Ecotricity, you can top up your smart meter in a few different ways:
- Through your online account
- Through the app
- By calling 0345 812 4444
Your credit should be added to your meter immediately, however, it can take up to 30 minutes.
Why does my Ecotricity smart meter keep beeping?
There are a number of reasons why your Ecotricity smart meter might be beeping, but the three most common and easily fixed are:
If your in-home display is running low on battery it might start beeping to let you know. This is an easy fix as all you have to do is plug it back into the wall and charge it up. If you have to move it further away from the meter, it might continue beeping as it may lose connection.
If you’re running low on credit or going into your emergency credit, your smart meter might let you know with a beep. Luckily, with a smart prepayment meter, you can top up at home, so you can get it sorted quickly and easily.
If you’ve reached or gone over your budget, even a preset one, your meter might beep as a warning. You can set or change budgets through your in-home display to better suit the needs of you and your household.
Are you considering switching to Ecotricity?
If you’re thinking of switching to a certified vegan, 100% renewable energy provider, you might be looking into Ecotricity. Here’s everything you need to help make your decision.
The best way to decide whether you like a company or not is to look at their reviews. They may look great on the surface, but customers can tell you what they’re really like.
Ecotricity reviews are pretty split – slightly more positive, but there are a fair few negatives in there too, resulting in fair, but not glowing overall scores.

|Which?||66% overall score|

Customers often complain that their bills are coming back inaccurate, even when they’re giving meter readings regularly. They’re receiving bills for a lot more energy than they’re using and have trouble getting this fixed. However, others praise Ecotricity for their easily accessible and understandable bills.
Where there can often be a bit of a wait to get your call answered and it can take a long time to hear back from Ecotricity, reviews about their customer service team are also extremely mixed. Some say that they have to contact multiple times to get their problem solved, while others praise them for their helpfulness and friendly nature.
Ecotricity has three different tariffs to suit different customers: ‘Green Gas and Electricity’ for standard meters, ‘Green Pay as You Go’ for prepayment meters, and a ‘Fully Charged Bundle’ for electric vehicle users.
All of their tariffs are 100% green gas and electricity, certified vegan, and come with no contracts or exit fees.
With the ‘Fully Charged Bundle’, you can get a discount on your electricity to charge your electric vehicle, pay half price at Electric Highway charging stations, and a discount on a Rolec Wallpod home charger. If you have an electric vehicle, switching to this tariff could save you over £200 in your first year.
Fuel Mix Disclosure
Every energy provider has to disclose their fuel mix every year. This fuel mix tells us where our energy comes from and the makeup of our electricity.
As Ecotricity is a 100% renewable energy company, its fuel mix looks like this:
Warm Home Discount
The Warm Home Discount is a Government-led scheme to help low-income and vulnerable households with their winter energy bills. If you’re eligible, you could receive a one-off payment of £140 to cover your bills from September to March.
Get £140 from the Warm Home Discount
Let us guide you through the Warm Home Discount and find you the right tariff that can also give you an additional £140 from the Warm Home Discount.
There are two groups of people eligible for the discount: the core group (elderly customers) and the broader group (low-income and other vulnerable customers).
Ecotricity currently only offers the Warm Home Discount to the core group. To be in the core group and eligible for Ecotricity’s Warm Home Discount, you have to be receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit.
Your £140 discount will be paid straight into your account automatically – you won’t have to do anything. You should receive a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions telling you about the scheme and how it works.
